Irvington Community Health Center. 100 Black Men of New Jersey Inc. and the Township of Irvington to Host Free Community Health Fair
Prostate, Blood Pressure, HIV & Body Fat Screenings will be Available to Participants
Irvington, NJ - A free community health fair for the entire family will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Irvington Auto Zone parking lot, located at 1128-1140 Springfield Avenue in Irvington. The health fair will kick off National Health Center Week in an effort to increase affordable quality health care to families in need.
The health fair is being sponsored by the Irvington Community Health Center, the Township of Irvington and 100 Black Men of New Jersey, Inc. As part of this community partnership, free Prostate screenings will be offered to male participants to reduce the rate of Prostate cancer plaguing African-American men.
In addition, blood pressure checkups will be given along with Diabetes, HIV and Body Fat Index screenings. Informational tables will feature prevention materials on asthma childhood lead poisoning, nutrition, mental health, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
Chlildren will be able to enjoy a variety of activities, including free story book readings, sponsored by Scholastic Books and HealthFirst, a fun Moon Bounce, face painting and free books. There also will be health refreshments, music and wellness mobile RV’s on display, thanks to Americhoice, Horizon Blue, Blue Shield and Amerigroup.
Other health fair partners include Auto Zone, Lab Corp., HealthFirst, HealthNet and the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. In case of rain, the health fair will be held August 15, 2009.
