Newark Community Health Centers, Inc. to Celebrate National Health Center Week

Free Screenings & Health Presentations Slated for Essex County's Federally Qualified Health Centers
 Newark, NJ - Newark Community Health Centers, Inc. (NCHC) will officially kick-off National Health Center Week on Monday, August 11, 2008 with a “Wellness Day” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to be held at the federally qualified health center’s location at 741 Broadway in Newark. NCHC is committed to providing affordable, quality health care and operates seven satellite health centers in Newark, Irvington, East Orange and Orange.
As part of the kick-off, Congressman Donald Payne (D-10), Senator Teresa Ruiz (D-29), Assemblywoman Cleo Tucker (D-28) and a host of Essex County elected officials, including Newark Mayor Cory Booker, the Newark Municipal Council, East Orange Mayor Robert Bowser, and the East Orange Municipal Council have been invited to the celebration.
The theme is “America's Health Centers: Home of America's Health Care Heroes.” The public is invited to participate in a variety of free health screenings, health demonstrations and educational activities on nutrition, women’s health, preventative health and fitness in the health center’s parking lot. NCHC will also offer fun activities for kids such as face painting, clowns, mascots and free giveaways to include back-to-school backpacks, music and a free cookout.
As part of the celebration, NCHC and its co-sponsors, AmeriChoice, AmeriGroup, University Health Plan, HealthNet and HealthFirst also will host these Wellness Day events:
